Fishing for Real Estate in Mazatlan - Part I

Mazatlan… better known as “The Pearl of the Pacific” is one of Mexico’s preferred places for fishing, in fact, some of the port’s chronicles mention that the main motivation of the first international visitors to come down – mainly Hollywood’s movie stars – was the practice of excellent fishing year-round.

Mazatlan continues to be a fishing destination, although now its fishing offer has also spectacularly extended into the real estate industry! Every year, hundreds of families, mainly Baby Boomers from the United States and Canada arrive to Mazatlan aiming of “embarking” on the most exciting fishing experience of their lifetime and some of them have been preparing for many years for this moment.

When we talk about fishing, once having decided to embark on this adventure, having taken into consideration the time of the year, and what you want to catch; sailfish, marlin, mahi-mahi, tuna, roosterfish, etc. The “expert captain” can suggest or advise, in which direction to steer the boat, the type of bait to use, and most of all, when to throw the line, hoping Neptune will contribute to an exciting and abundant catch.

Thinking of the above, I consider that fishing for real estate in Mazatlan, in more tan one way is an activity quite similar to sports fishing, understanding that the area (over 15 miles) covered by the city, is precisely the “ocean of opportunities” divided in zones, in whose direction, depending on what you want to catch, a condo, a villa, a lot, a loft, a ranch, etc., guided by an “expert captain” [agent or broker], each angler [investor or baby boomer] will throw their line in this or that direction to make the best of their time and their money.

The key to success in sports fishing is the same as for making a successful investment in real estate… “location”, “location” and “location!”, and the first thing to watch out for to identify Mazatlan as a magnificent real estate fishing destination is its perfect location!, so close to the Tropic of Cancer. In fact the Port of Mazatlan is located in the same latitude as the Hawaiian Islands, a paramount aspect due to which every day more investors seriously interested in acquiring properties are arriving to this destination.

So, just like the angler is presented with a great variety of species in the sea of Mazatlan, the same happens to the investor while fishing for real estate opportunities in this destination. Depending on the zone, the offer is also rich in styles and types, going from lots in which to build at your own taste, to vintage houses, apartments, even luxury villas or ranches; out of which a versatile offer of condominiums with spectacular views stands out. You can find them from approximately $150,000.00 USD and up.

Prestigious developers, the government and the society in general are participating in the present development of Mazatlan. The three are working and paying special attention to making sure the growth of the offer, besides bringing about economic benefits to all sectors of the population, is equilibrated and in agreement with the urban development plan, which in the long run, based on a firm and agile services infrastructure that keeps expanding, guarantees the added value to continue rising. After all, what buyer is not satisfied by the certainty that, in addition to enjoying their purchase, with the passing of time its increase in value makes it one of their best ever investments? Taking this into consideration, as I mentioned earlier, every day the numbers grow of those arriving to the port with the goal of throwing their lines and fishing, making the best of the present moment – that among the experts – is the ideal, before the real estate boom turns Mazatlan into a sea of high-value investment opportunities where few have the chance of profiting and enjoying.
