Maz-Hotels – Much more and better than one!
Hotel La Siesta – Review GO2MEXICO STAFF - Translation by Eduardo Rincón-Gallardo · January 2010
The most colorful demonstration of a great history that continues to influence the development and growth of a touristic destination in Mexico is surely that of the port of Mazatlan; a city in front of the ocean considered for its beauty “The Pearl of the Mexican Pacific”, where, thanks to the efforts and deliverance of illustrious and daring local and foreign entrepreneurs the tourist industry has been consolidated as an area of vital importance for the country’s development.
The varied lodging, activities and entertainment offered by Mazatlan to its domestic and international visitors is full and comprehensive. Despite its technological advances – which, by the way, are being exploited at their maximum – and its real estate growth, Mazatlan continues to be a picturesque destination offering the very special warmth of the northern people, with their unequalled frank and friendly style. Here the art of greeting and catering is passed on from generation to generation like in no other Mexican beach destination, making it a most attractive place where a daily growing number of visitors, charmed by the romanticism of the place and the warmth of the Mazatlecos (the way local people refer to themselves), decide to make Mazatlan their second home, or as is the case for thousands more, their retirement place.
Mazatlan’s growth is unstoppable as well as its lodging offer, which not only aims at impressing the visitors with its exceptional service, but also makes them fall in love with this destination from their first arrival, that keeps them also recommending it and coming back again.
Hotel La Siesta - Review
It was the year of 1952 and the lodging industry was a source of considerable resources for this destination when two Americans, Mr. Campbell and Mr. Dan Davos acquired a building in a commerce-oriented area that is now part of Mazatlán’s historic center, and launched the construction of the Hotel La Siesta.
In 1963, at the proposal of Mr. Jaime Coppel, Carlos Anderson and Jesús Juárez, the Hotel La Siesta became the launching site for a project with worldwide repercussions that significantly contributed to Mazatlán’s global touristic positioning, “El Shrimp Bucket” was born. It was the cradle for the prestigious “Grupo Anderson” and it continues to serve its delicious seafood – especially the “Shrimp Basket” – to thousands of Mazatlecos and international visitors.
Since 1974 Jaime and Santiago Coppel are the owners - with the support of their team of collaborators – responsible for maintaining the great prestige of the hotel which is a key building to the historic center of Mazatlan due to its structure, style and history. The hotel is located in front of the boardwalk in the Olas Altas bay area, a place considered one of the port’s most romantic and representative spaces. The beautiful interior space of the Hotel La Siesta with its wooden hallways, are a clear display of the effort to keep the neoclassical colonial style, much admired by its visitors.
