FACTS
You can reach Mazatlán by land, driving along the brand new Pan-American tollway from Nogales or riding the train through the Copper Canyon; by sea, sailing down Baja California to its southernmost tip; or by plane, from most major cities in the U.S.A and Canada: there are non-stop flights to Mazatláns International Airport, from Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Phoenix, Denver, Chicago, Houston, Dallas and Vancouver, and direct flights from México City, plus connecting flights from other major cities.
DINING: You can find the best restaurants right inside your own hotel, within walking distance all over the Zona Dorada or anywhere along the coast and in Old Mazatlán area. Restaurants are mostly casual and offer bountiful and reasonably priced meals. Most restaurants specialize in seafood and a very creative Mexican Cuisine, but you can also find, international cuisine at the world famous Grupo Anderson's Restaurants. You may also satisfy your needs for fast food at the many establishments found in Mazatlán.
NIGHT LIFE: The Zona Dorada or "Golden Zone" in Mazatlán offers the finest night clubs, discos and video bars to dance the night away. You can also stroll throught the streets while enjoying a serenade from a mariachi band or listening to Mazatláns tambora brass band.
BIRD WATCHING: Sign up for adventure! A nature field trip in Mazatlán can be easily arranged at your hotel or in most local travel agencies. Many duck species arrive to Mazatlán during the winter months. Pheasant, quail, dove and other interesting wildfowl is also abundant here, in "The Land of the Deer"!
FISHING: Mazatlán is a fishermans paradise that offers aboundant fishing all year long. Fishing licenses and charter fishing boats are available. Capture is limited to one billfish and 2 small game fish per angler per day; however, we strongly support billfishing catch & release policies.
SHOPPING: Throughout Mazatlán, there opportunities to purchase beautiful comodities ranging from fine jewelry to the most traditional Méxican pottery and hand blown glass. However, if you are looking for the latest style of clothing, that will make all your friends back home jealous, stop in to the Sr. Frog's Official Store.
EXCURSIONS: There are many different excursions offered by various travel services. Here are the most popular:
- Historical Mazatlán Tour: to really enjoy this one, you must do it aboard a "pneumonia"- Mazatláns unique fun-filled, wind-cooled little taxi- with an English speaking driver. A three hour ride will take you through Mazatláns historical downtown area (Old Mazatlán), the New Mazatlán and the modern Zona Dorada.
- Isla de la Piedra (Stone Island Tour): a catamaran, trimaran or a small yacht will take you around the bay to this unspoiled, lovely place, where youll find quiet beaches and a tropical jungle teeming with exotic animals like armadillos, iguanas, raccoons, pelicans, pink, blue, white and gray heron, amid lush vegetation.
- Harbor cruises and island excursions: take a cruise around Mazatláns Puerto Viejo bay and visit its three islands ("Goat", "Deer" and "Bird"), where you can practice snorkeling , scuba diving or swimming in its balmy waters. These islands can also be reached by jet ski, kayak or a small beach catamaran.
- Concordia and Copala mountain tour: Visit these quaint mining colonial towns aboard a tour bus. Admire among other things, the hand-crafted wooden furniture of Concordia, and Copala, a pre-hispanic mining town with a quaint mountainous town square. Soft drinks and lunch are usually included.
CAR RENTALS: Most American car rentals can be found at the airport or along the Zona Dorada, for your convenience.
